UIS Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 at Missouri Baptist

The UIS women's tennis team fell 5-2 in a road match at Missouri Baptist on Saturday night.

Missouri Baptist secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Ema Norma Bordean and Niamh Grogan fell 6-1 in the top spot, while Jane Carter and Cristina Mendoza Romero dropped a tight 7-6 (7-5) decision at No. 3. UIS picked up its lone doubles win at No. 2, where Maria Garcia Gama and Alisha Deogaonkarwon 6-4.

In singles play, Ema Norma Bordean lost 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1, while Cristina Mendoza Romero battled through three sets before falling 6-3, 5-7 , 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2. Alisha Deogaonkar also played a close match at No. 3 but lost 7-6 (9-7), 6-4.

UIS earned its two team points at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Niamh Grogan won by retirement after taking the first set 6-3 and building a 3-0 lead in the second. Maria Garcia Gama rallied for a comeback win at No. 6, dropping the first set 6-4 before winning the next two sets 6-2, 6-3.

Jane Carter rounded out the singles lineup with a 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 5.

UIS will return to action next weekend with two road matches in Kentucky. The Prairie Stars will face Campbellsville on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., then Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday at noon.
