The UIS women's tennis team played on the road at Thomas More on Friday afternoon and came away with a 4-3 win. Solid doubles play helped to lift the Prairie Stars in the match.
Ema Norma Bordean and
Niamh Grogan won 6-2 at the No. 1 doubles spot, while
Jane Carter and
Cristina Mendoza Romero added a 6-4 victory at No. 3. The freshman No. 2 duo of
Maria Garcia Gama and
Alisha Deogaonkar fell 6-2.
In singles action, Bordean led the way with a 6-2, 7-6, 6-3 win, and Mendoza Romero followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Carter won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.
Niamh Grogan and
Alisha Deogaonkar both dropped matches, with Deogaonkar taking the first set before falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

"I am really proud of how our team competed today," said head coach
Henrique Leal. "We have been working hard on adjusting some details, especially in doubles, and that work has proven to be key for today's match. The doubles point was crucial in setting the tone for singles and allowed us to come home with the win."
