The Illinois Springfield women's tennis team looks to rebound from a challenging opening weekend as it travels to Thomas More on Friday, Feb. 6. The match has been moved up slightly, beginning at 2:00 p.m. CT (3:00 p.m. ET) at the Five Seasons Tennis Center.

UIS opened its spring slate with two losses, falling 6-1 to Tiffin and 7-0 to nationally ranked No. 16 Findlay. Despite the team results, several standout performances emerged. Cristina Mendoza Romero delivered a thrilling victory at No. 1 singles, winning 7-6 (5), 6-4, while the doubles pair of Niamh Grogan and Ema Norma Bordean earned a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles. These bright spots provide a foundation as the Prairie Stars seek to find consistency on the court.

Thomas More is also seeking its first win of the spring after a 6-1 loss to Northern Kentucky last weekend. The Saints were competitive in spots, with freshman Ella Cason posting a 6-4, 6-4 win in singles and several other players showing promise in tight matches. UIS will look to build on its early successes and test its depth against Thomas More's young roster, which features first-year players Bella Flores, Ella Cason, and Sadie Jones.

Friday's contest sets up an early battle of teams hoping to find momentum in the first month of the season. UIS will aim to improve its record while keeping its singles and doubles units firing as the spring schedule ramps up.
