In a road matchup on Monday morning, the Illinois Springfield women's tennis team delivered a dominant 7-0 victory over Evangel. The Prairie Stars controlled the match from the start, sweeping doubles play and winning all six singles contests in straight sets.
UIS secured the doubles point with a clean 3-0 sweep. At No. 1,
Ema Norma Bordean and
Niamh Grogan earned a 6-2 win. The duo of
Alisha Deogaonkar and
Maria Garcia Gama followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 2. At No. 3,
Jane Carter and
Cristina Mendoza Romero capped off doubles play with a 6-2 win.
In singles play, the Prairie Stars continued their dominance, winning every match in straight sets.
Cristina Mendoza Romero opened with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Bordean followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win, while Grogan added a 6-1, 6-3 result. Deogaonkar handled her match 6-0, 6-2, and Carter posted a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory. Garcia Gama completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 performance, marking her second win in two days.
With the victory, UIS improves its overall record to 2-6.
"Both our men and women showed a lot of resilience and character after coming up short yesterday. Both teams came hungry to play and we started the doubles with a lot of intensity throughout the whole match," said head coach
Henrique Leal. "Looking forward to being at home the next couple of weeks and bringing the same energy we have been displaying."
