The Illinois Springfield men's soccer team will make its official home debut on Sunday, Sept. 7, when the Prairie Stars host nationally ranked No. 7 Saginaw Valley State at Kiwanis Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
UIS (0-1) opened its 2025 season on the road at Alabama-Huntsville on Thursday, falling 2-0 in a defensive contest. Goalkeeper Landon Amick played the full 90 minutes, recording four saves while conceding one goal in each half. Robin Lemke-Bergseth led the Prairie Stars offensively with two shots on target, but UIS was limited to three shots overall in the match.
Saginaw Valley State (0-0-1) enters Sunday ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. The Cardinals played to a scoreless draw with No. 2 Charleston on Thursday. Against Charleston, SVSU produced 11 shots with two on goal, while goalkeeper Konstantinos Parisis tallied two saves to preserve the shutout.
The Prairie Stars and Cardinals are 1-1 all-time. UIS earned its first win in the series with an upset early in the 2023 campaign, also at Kiwanis Stadium.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth, with season passes available for $30 (adult) or $10 (youth), plus applicable fees. Tickets can be purchased online, through the HomeTown Fan App, or at the gate on game day.
