The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team is ready for its first full week of GLVC play. The Prairie Stars host Quincy on Friday at 5:00 p.m. for the program's annual Homecoming game, then travel to Kirksville, Mo. for a 2:30 p.m. road contest against Truman State on Sunday.
Illinois Springfield (1-1-2, 0-0-1 GLVC)
UIS opened league play with a 3-3 draw against William Jewell this past Sunday. GLVC Offensive Player of the Week
Mallory Herber netted a hat trick, including a penalty kick, with assists from
Abbie Gleason and
Madelyn Festerling. Herber leads the Prairie Stars in scoring, while Festerling and
McKenna Gahagan have also found the back of the net this fall.
UIS trails Quincy 4-11-2 all-time but has momentum in the series, winning three straight before last year's draw.
Quincy (1-1-2, 0-0-1 GLVC)
The Hawks share UIS' overall record after opening GLVC play with a scoreless draw at Lewis. Quincy is led offensively by Ella Wolfard and Rebecca Rheinheimer with two goals apiece, while Jessie Newton has tallied two assists. Goalkeeper Devin Tracy already owns two shutouts this season.
Truman State (1-1-1, 1-0 GLVC)
The Bulldogs earned a 3-2 comeback win at Indianapolis to start conference play. Midfielder Madison Blomenkamp scored twice in the second half to secure the victory. Quinn Nauman, who has a goal and an assist this season, has also been a key contributor. Goalkeeper Siman Loethen has made eight saves through three matches.
UIS is down 2-8-1 all-time against Truman State.
Homecoming at UIS
Homecoming week features events across campus, capped by Friday's soccer doubleheader against Quincy and Saturday's volleyball match against Maryville. Athletics alumni are invited to gather at the alumni tent inside the soccer facility, and for this special occasion, beverage sales will be available during Friday night's game.
