UIS Women’s Soccer Hosts William Jewell in GLVC Opener and Senior Day Match

9/13/2025 1:15:00 PM

The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team opens Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play on Sunday with a home matchup against William Jewell at 12:00 p.m. The contest will also serve as Senior Day for nine Prairie Stars who will be recognized for their contributions to the program.

Illinois Springfield (1-1-1)
The Prairie Stars enter league play fresh off their first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over Ohio Dominican on Wednesday at Kiwanis Stadium. After a scoreless first half, McKenna Gahagan converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute for her first career goal. Just 15 minutes later, Maddie Festerling netted her first career score, assisted by Gahagan, to seal the result.

Through three matches, UIS has seen consistent shot production from Addison Wittenberg, Taytum Scarborough, and Katelynn Ward, who are each pushing for their first goals of the campaign. In goal, Gigi Yurevich and Makenna Miller have split time evenly, combining for a 1.00 goals-against average and two shutouts.

William Jewell (0-1-1)
The Cardinals are still looking for their first win of 2025 after a 4-1 loss to Newman and a scoreless draw with Wayne State. The Cardinals' lone goal of the season came from Lux Sands, assisted by London Schulte, in their opener against Newman. Goalkeeper Jenna Skeeters has started both matches, posting a 1.59 GAA with 10 saves, while freshman Hailey Davin saw her first minutes off the bench.

Last year, UIS defeated William Jewell 2-0 early in the season. While both goal scorers from that match have since graduated, current returners Abbie Gleason and Kalli Drexler tallied assists in that game.

Senior Day
Following Sunday's women's match, UIS will honor its senior class of Claire Ruter, Alexa Blake, McKenna Gahagan, Katelynn Ward, Dani Auble, Greta Kohnz, Taytum Scarborough, Anna Schurz, and Gigi Yurevich. The Senior Day ceremony is expected to take place at approximately 2 p.m., recognizing the players and their families for their commitment and dedication to the Prairie Stars.
