Prairie Stars Sweep Doubleheader Against UMSL to Claim Series Victory

The UIS baseball team swept Saturday's doubleheader against UMSL, winning both games 8-2 to secure the series victory. UIS improves to 6-5 in GLVC play, 11-10 overall.

GAME ONE | W, 8-2 (7 Inn.)
  • UIS capitalized early after Ethan Bowers reached on an error, followed by a Mark Kattula double and an Ivan Dahlberg single to drive in both baserunners. Mack Clark added another run on a groundout to put UIS ahead 3-0 in the first inning.
  • Mark Decicco dominated on the mound by striking out the side in order in the bottom half. He continued his efficiency, facing just four batters in each of the next three innings.
  • The Prairie Stars extended their lead in the fifth when Mack Clark scored on a fielder's choice and a throwing error, followed by a two-RBI single from Kattula. UIS added insurance in the sixth with a Dillon Smail RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Hollandsworth.
  • UMSL attempted a late rally in the seventh, scoring two runs on four hits, but Decicco (1-3) recorded the final strikeout to secure his first win of the season.
  • Mark Kattula and Noah Caceres each had three hits while Ethan Bowers and Mack Clark scored two runs apiece.
GAME TWO | W, 8-2 (7 Inn.)
  • UIS struck first again in game two when Ethan Bowers singled, stole second, and scored on a Noah Caceres sacrifice fly. Ivan Dahlberg added another sac fly to give UIS a 2-0 lead after two innings.
  • UMSL cut the deficit in half with an RBI double, but Adam Lindsey kept the Tritons quiet over the next three innings.
  • Kyle Tyler entered in relief in the sixth and delivered a clean inning, while Quinn Hoftender took over for the final three innings, earning the win after allowing two hits and one run.
  • The Prairie Stars broke the game open with a six-run seventh inning. After Bowers singled and advanced on an error, Kattula walked, and Dahlberg delivered an RBI single. A fielder's choice and an UMSL error brought in two more runs, followed by a Kody Morton RBI double and a Hollandsworth single to score two additional runs.
  • UMSL managed an RBI single in the eighth, but the Prairie Stars held firm to secure their second 8-2 win of the day.
  • Ethan Bowers and Ivan Dahlberg each tallied two hits. 
  • Adam Lindsey went five innings, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out three to earn the win.
Up Next
UIS travels to Maryville on Tuesday for a standalone midweek matchup. The Prairie Stars will then return home next weekend to host GLVC newcomer Lincoln in a conference series.
