UIS Baseball Wins Handily Against Maryville on Tuesday

The UIS baseball team secured a decisive victory over the Maryville Saints on Tuesday by a score of 13-6. With the win, UIS improves to 12-10 overall.

Game Recap
  • The game was a pitcher's duel through the first six innings, as UIS starter Brayden Mayer pitched four strong innings, allowing just two hits. Maryville's Sam Cardwell countered with five innings of one-hit baseball.
  • Matt Cruise took over for Mayer, striking out one but walking three batters. Kannon Walker entered to escape a bases-loaded jam in the fifth with a key strikeout. Both teams went down in order in the sixth, keeping the score locked at 0-0.
  • UIS broke through in the seventh when Johnny Wendling singled, followed by a hit-by-pitch and a Kody Morton double that plated two runs. Walker stayed on the mound, allowing a double but retiring the next three batters to preserve the lead.
  • In the eighth inning, UIS extended its lead by adding three runs on three hits, highlighted by a Kody Morton home run.
  • Parker Bradford entered in the bottom of the eighth and allowed three hits and a walk before Quinn Hoftender relieved him. One run scored on an RBI single, and another crossed on a fielder's choice, but UIS escaped the inning with a 5-2 lead.
  • The Prairie Stars erupted for seven runs in the ninth inning. UIS strung together four singles to go up 7-2, followed by a series of walks and hit-by-pitches that extended the lead to 10-2. A sacrifice fly and a wild pitch brought in two more runs, making it 12-2. After Maryville recorded two outs, an RBI single capped the scoring at 13-2.
  • Maryville made a late push in the bottom of the ninth, scoring four runs between relievers Quinn Hoftender and Clayton Johnson. A double drove in one run, while a series of walks and a balk added another. A two-run double trimmed the lead to 13-6 before Jake Uber entered and struck out the final batter to seal the victory.
  • Kannon Walker earned the win after 2.1 innings of relief, allowing just one hit.
  • Six Prairie Stars recorded two hits, including Kody Morton, who also had five RBIs in the game.
