As part of UIS Athletics' 15 Years of NCAA Division II Membership celebration, the department is highlighting 15 standout teams and 15 standout student-athletes who have shaped the program's Division II era. Each week, UIS will feature one team and one player, honoring the accomplishments, championship moments, and legacy-building performances that have defined Prairie Stars Athletics.

Jane Carter, a four-year standout for the Prairie Stars from 2015-18, left a lasting mark on the UIS Women's Tennis program. Carter became the program's first player to earn four consecutive All-GLVC selections and set UIS career records in singles wins (64), doubles wins (67), and total wins (131), posting a career-best 71.1% win percentage in singles play. She also made history as the first UIS Women's Tennis student-athlete to earn GLVC Player of the Week honors, receiving the recognition on February 28, 2018.

During her senior season (2017-18), Carter went 17-6 in singles and 13-10 in doubles, helping UIS set a program record with 12 total wins and a third-place finish in the GLVC East Division. The Prairie Stars advanced to the GLVC Tournament for the second consecutive year, ultimately falling 5-3 to No. 35 Missouri-St. Louis in the quarterfinals.

Carter's impact was felt throughout her entire career. As a junior, she went 14-7 in singles and 11-12 in doubles while competing primarily at No. 1. As a sophomore, she posted a team-best 19-10 singles record and a 14-14 doubles mark. She made an immediate impact as a mid-year freshman in 2014-15, earning GLVC Freshman of the Year honors, setting the UIS single-season record for singles wins (14), and becoming the first UIS athlete to claim one of the conference's major awards.

A record-setting career defined by individual accolades, leadership, and historic milestones, Jane Carter helped elevate the Prairie Stars Women's Tennis program and established a standard of excellence that continues to inspire future generations of UIS athletes.
