Prairie Stars in Contention After Day One at Bill Crabtree Invitational

The Illinois Springfield women's golf team is in strong position after the opening round of the Bill Crabtree Invitational, sitting in a tie for second place at +16 (304). The Prairie Stars are just two shots back of leader Maryville heading into Monday's final round at The Pearl Club.

UIS performed consistently across all scoring categories, tied for second in par-3 scoring (3.40), second in par-4 scoring (4.36), and second in par-5 scoring (5.00). As a team, the Prairie Stars totaled 10 birdies and 51 pars on the day.

Elaine Grant led the way with a one-over 73, standing third overall. Yi-Ting Hsieh followed closely with a 74, placing her in a tie for fourth, while Valentina Torrealba carded a 75 to sit in a tie for seventh. Erin Ahmadfadzir and Lia Rody each contributed rounds of 82 to complete the UIS lineup.

Hsieh also leads the entire tournament field in par-5 scoring average (4.50), helping keep UIS within striking distance of the top spot.
