The Illinois Springfield women's golf team earned a runner-up finish at the Bearcat Dual Gender, hosted by McKendree at Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville, Ill. The Prairie Stars posted rounds of 307, 309, and 318 for a 54-hole total of 934, finishing just behind team champion Lewis (922) which closed with rounds of 301 and 303 on Tuesday.
UIS was in contention for the top spot entering the final round but slipped slightly down the stretch, unable to complete the comeback needed for a first-place finish.
Elaine Grant led the Prairie Stars individually, finishing third overall with a score of 228 (74-77-77).
Valentina Torrealba tied for sixth at 234, while
Yi-Ting Hsieh placed tied for 10th with a 237.
Ira Joshi and
Lia Rody were 14th and 18th, respectively, with scores of 239 and 240 to round out the UIS lineup.
Fizreen Ahmadfadzir totaled 263 strokes competing as an individual in the tournament.
"Our team showed a lot of maturity this week, especially battling the wind in the final two rounds," said head coach
Josh Edison. "Having three players finish inside the top 10 and four inside the top 15 says a lot about how balanced and deep our lineup is right now. Valentina's back-to-back top-10 finishes were a big moment for her and something we've been building toward. Elaine continues to be a model of consistency with another top-3 finish, and the group's overall composure really stood out. Finishing second in those conditions is something to be proud of, and it shows we are trending in the right direction and ready to get a W."
The Prairie Stars recorded their best finish of the fall, placing second after three straight third-place showings to close out the fall schedule.
