University of Illinois Springfield alumna
Carmen Llopis Fabra has been named one of the Top 30 honorees for the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, placing her among the top 10 student-athletes from NCAA Division II.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors graduating female student-athletes who have demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics, service, and leadership throughout their collegiate careers. This year's Top 30 were selected from a record-breaking 631 nominees representing all three NCAA divisions.
Carmen Llopis Fabra, a biology major and member of the UIS women's tennis team, earned multiple All-Great Lakes Valley Conference First Team selections and served as a two-year team captain during her Prairie Star career.
Off the court, she made significant contributions to the UIS community through leadership and academic involvement. She served as secretary and Academic Committee chair for the
UIS Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a supplemental instruction leader in chemistry and biology, and a senior student leader in the UIS Student Union.
Her commitment to academic excellence earned her the Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar Award and the Council of Presidents Academic Excellence Award from the GLVC. She also received the Nada Chang Undergraduate Research Award and multiple student research and support grants for her work in the sciences.
Beyond campus, Llopis Fabra volunteered in the emergency, infusion, and day surgery units at Springfield Memorial Hospital and contributed to The ACE Project, which promotes equitable access to after-school tennis programs in underserved communities.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee will choose one national honoree from the Top 30 finalists, to be announced this fall and recognized at the NCAA Convention in January.
