UIS Women’s Tennis Competes in Opening Singles at Dwight Davis College Open

The UIS women's tennis team opened competition Friday at the Dwight Davis College Open in St. Louis, advancing multiple players in singles play.

In Friday's opening singles rounds, Ema Norma Bordean cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory and will face Hallie Jeffers Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Alisha Deogaonkar also advanced with a 6-3, 6-0 win and will meet Amber Edmonds in her next match at 8:30 a.m.

Niamh Grogan earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory and will play Courtney Clayton Saturday morning, while Cristina Mendoza Romero battled through a three-set match to defeat her opponent 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 and will face Gemma Elisabetta Ricci on Saturday.

Two Prairie Stars fell in opening singles play and will continue in the consolation bracket. Jane Carter dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match, and Maria Garcia Gama lost 6-0, 6-3. Both will play again in scheduled consolation rounds on Saturday.

The Prairie Stars return to action Saturday morning for singles quarterfinals and consolation matches. Doubles competition begins Saturday evening, with second-round matches following directly after the opening rounds: Next matches for advancing singles players follow the quarterfinals, and doubles teams are scheduled to play directly after the opening round in the evening. All finals are scheduled for Sunday.
