4/30/2024 9:00:00 AM

The University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team will advance to regional competition once again, this time as an at-large selection. The Prairie Stars will be one of fifteen teams competing at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. on May 6-8. The championship selections were announced Monday afternoon on NCAA.com.

The Prairie Stars appeared in the NCAA Regional Rankings ahead of the GLVC Women's Golf Championship. At the conference tournament, the team finished sixth in stroke play and Elaine Grant took third to earn the first All-GLVC honors of her career. The team's top regular season finish came in early April when UIS took third at the Flyer Invitational behind a third place finish from Elaine Grant.

The NCAA DII Women's Golf East Regional will be hosted by the University of Indianapolis. The UIndy Greyhounds are in as the No. 2 seed after claiming the GLVC title. Also in the top-three are GMAC champion Findlay and GLIAC champion Grand Valley State. The remaining automatic bids went to Gannon (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference), Glenville State (Mountain East), and New Haven (Northeast-10 Conference).

All participants will compete through the 54 holes of competition. The top three (central), five (south), five (west) and five (east) teams along with the top two individuals not on an advancing team will advance to the national championships.
