The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team heads into the third weekend of conference play preparing for one important road game against in-state rival Quincy on Sunday at 12 p.m.
UIS (2-3-3, 2-2)
UIS comes into the weekend situated at 8th in the GLVC after going 1-1 last weekend.
Friday night saw the Prairie Stars overcome tough conditions as they outlasted conference newcomer Upper Iowa on the road. Abby Dellamorte scored another goal with her head from a Sierra Cenek cross this time. The 4th minute goal was enough as the Stars came out victorious 1-0. Halftime was delayed due to lightning in the surrounding area, but this didn't stop UIS from creating a flurry of opportunities as the game went on. The Prairie Stars outshot the Peacocks 13-5 with a 4-2 advantage of shots on goal.
On Sunday afternoon the Stars traveled to Kirksville, Missouri for a matchup with Truman State. UIS had the majority of both the ball and dangerous opportunities in the match, but fell to the Bulldogs 0-1. The goal came in the 69th minute from Quinn Nauman. The Prairie Stars outshot the Bulldogs 14-6 with a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, but couldn't convert the chances they created.
Quincy (2-5-1, 2-2)
Quincy enters the weekend 9th in the GLVC, so potential conference tournament chances may rest on this matchup.
On Friday night the Hawks played Truman State, falling by a score of 0-3. The Bulldogs struck early in the match with a goal in the 14th minute. As Quincy kept pushing to try and net the equalizer, the Bulldogs pulled away in the 2 half with two goals, coming in the 67th and 80th minutes. The Hawks outshot the Bulldogs 20-11 with a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal, none of the pressure applied resulted in a goal.
Sunday afternoon the Hawks picked up their second conference win of the season as they ran riot against the Peacocks of Upper Iowa with a 4-0 scoreline. A first half goal from Lisa Albarran was the only thing that separated the two at the intermission, but three second-half goals guided the Hawks to a big away win. Quincy took 18 shots with 13 on target while Upper Iowa had 11 shots with only 4 on target.
Two Quincy players have three goals on the season; Lisa Albarran and Paige Nguyen. The Hawks have scored 11 goals on the season, with seven of them being assisted.
UIS vs. Quincy History
UIS currently holds a 3-11-1 record against the Hawks, but has won the last two matchups between the two. Last year's meeting was a tight contest in Springfield that the Prairie Stars won on a goal from Abby Dellamorte.
