UIS men's basketball took down the Rockhurst Hawks at TRAC on Thursday to claim their sixteenth win of the season and set their NCAA era record for most wins in a single season.
"We are so proud of this team and coaching staff." said Head Coach
Matt Brock, " They have dedicated themselves to getting better each day and it has changed this program. The best thing is we have a locker room that is full of amazing teammates and we are going to continue to work to see how far this group can go!"
The Prairie Stars hit their stride at the right time in a contest that had seven lead changes. The teams had an even first half and entered the break 34-34 after a dunk by
Jack Weber.
Rockhurst was successful in four free throw attempts in the first minutes of the second half, but could not pull away by more than four points before the Prairie Stars responded. The game was tied nine separate times in the second half alone. UIS was successful in 6-of-8 free throw attempts in the final two minutes. The six free throws and a 3-pointer by
Jack Weber allowed the Prairie Stars to prevail over a team that has pulled off a few big wins against GLVC opponents in recent weeks.
Jack Weber had a 23 point game while also shooting 71.4% from the field. The trio of
Jordan Rice,
Max Kunnert, and
Jacob Hanna collected 12 points apiece. UIS had a team field goal percentage of 52.2%, shooting even across both halves.
UIS outrebounded the Hawks 30-20, with the extra ten all coming from the defensive side. The Prairie Stars defense held Rockhurst to a shooting percentage of 33.3% in the second half.
UIS is now 16-9 overall and 10-7 in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars will return to TRAC at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday to face William Jewell on Senior Day.
