Track and Field Program Has Six Top-Four Finishes Over The Weekend

The University of Illinois Springfield track and field teams were spread out this weekend at two competitions. The Prairie Stars competed in the Jim Vargo Invitational and Bearcat Classic.
 
On Friday at the Jim Vargo Invitational in Louisville, Ky., UIS had six top-four finishes at the event.
 
Blake Jones won the 1,500m race in a time of 3:50.31. He finished just a second ahead of teammate Chris Cherry and Noah McIntyre, who finished second and fourth, respectively.
 
In the 5,000m run, Wyatt McIntyre came in third with a time of 14:54.42. In the 3,000m steeplechase, Jade Anderson was fourth on the women's side with a mark of 12:12.12, and Ryan Jones was runner-up in the men's race with a finishing time of 9:27.40.
 
At the Bearcat Classic on Saturday, UIS women's team scored 11 points, while the men's team did not score in the competition.
 
Breanna Chandler led the Prairie Stars by finishing eighth in the 800m race with a time of 2:21.72. Gloria Esarco also scored in that event.
 
The UIS track and field program will send its top runners to California next week for the Bryan Clay Invitational, while the rest of the squad will be at the Greenville Select Invitational in Illinois.
