The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team continued a familiar formula on Sunday as it swept a three-game series at Maryville and extended its winning streak to 13 games. The Prairie Stars used an explosive offense and power pitching to earn a 12-5 victory over the Saints.

Offensively, UIS had 13 hits, and it scored nine of its runs in the first four innings as it jumped out to a 9-1 lead.
Zion Pettigrew led the offense with four hits, including a double and two homers, three runs and three RBI.
Austin Alderman also hit a homer and finished with four RBI and two runs.
Brant Vanaman had three hits, two runs and two RBI.
Kal Youngquist also scored two times in the game.

On the mound, UIS struck out nine in nine innings. The Prairie Stars scattered 11 hits and stranded nine runners.
Blake Begner earned the win after throwing the first five innings.
Clarke Davenport ended the game by striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth, and he has now struck out the last six batters that he has faced.

For the series, UIS scored 35 runs in the three games, and it had 30 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.

UIS, which is ranked 15th in NCAA Division II, is now 17-3 on the season. The Prairie Stars start GLVC next week with a four-game series at rival Quincy.
