The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team took advantage of the wind blowing out to right and hit 11 homers during Sunday's doubleheader against McKendree. The Prairie Stars won both games by scores of 19-6 and 15-4.

In the opener, UIS tied a school record with eight home runs, and
Brant Vanaman tied the UIS mark with three individual homers.
Zion Pettigrew and
Brayden Gorecki both hit two over the fence, and
Brandon Bannon had the other homer.

Bannon, Pettigrew, and Vanaman all had three hits in the game. Pettigrew and Vanaman had five RBI apiece, and Gorecki drove in four runs. Bannon scored four times, and Vanaman and
Austin Alderman each had three runs.

Colton Hale improved to 4-0 after allowing four earned runs in five innings. He struck out six and walked just one.
Mason Coon,
A.J. Golembiewski, and
Cameron Leff pitched the final four innings, and didn't allow a run.

In the second game, McKendree led 2-0 after just two pitches. The Prairie Stars proceeded to score the next 15 runs to pull away for the victory.

The turning point was the third inning with the two teams still tied at two. A two-out error gave UIS an extra life, and it proceeded to record four straight hits. The final was another homer by Gorecki which plated the final two of five runs.

Bannon homered twice in the second game, as he, Gorecki, and Vanaman all finished the doubleheader with three homers. In the final game, Bannon had team-highs with three runs, three hits, and three RBI.
Asher Bradd also had three hits, and Alderman drove in three runs.

Quinn Gudaitis did not allow a hit for his final four innings of work. He struck out eight, and allowed just two hits and one walk.
Clarke Davenport struck out all three hitters he faced, and
Luke Fitton closed out the final inning.

UIS improves to 13-3 overall. The final game of the McKendree series will take place on Monday at 1 p.m.
