Baseball's Winning Streak Hits Ten Games

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball program extended its winning streak to 10 games on Monday with a 14-6 victory over McKendree. The Prairie Stars swept the three games from the Bearcats, outscoring them 48-16 in the process.

The 10-game winning streak is the fourth time in program history that the Prairie Stars have won double-digit games in a row. That includes last year's squad that had an 11-game streak at one point in the season, and the history 29-game streak in 2018.

UIS led by just one at 7-6 halfway through Monday's game, but it scored the final seven runs of the game. The bullpen played a big role in that, not allowing a run and just two hits over the final 4 1/3 innings. Matt Blaney pitched 2 1/3 in relief and earned the win. He allowed just one hit and struck out four. Starter Blake Begner struck out seven in 4 2/3 innings.

Offensively, Brant Vanaman had five RBI, with four of the game on one swing with a grand slam. Kal Youngquist and Brayden Gorecki also went deep for the Prairie Stars. Brandon Bannon, Zion Pettigrew, and Kal Youngquist all scored three times. Austin Alderman led the team with four hits. Youngquist also had three RBI in the game.

UIS improves to 13-3 on the season. The Prairie Stars will be back in action this weekend with a three-game road series at Maryville.
