Colton Hale Ties School's Wins Record In Saturday's Doubleheader Sweep

Colton Hale tied the University of Illinois Springfield baseball career wins record on Saturday, and the Prairie Stars offense remained red hot on the road at Maryville. The No. 15 Prairie Stars extended their winning streak to 12 with 10-6 and 13-3 victories over the Saints.

Hale earned his 22nd victory as a Prairie Star in game one, tying Andrew Dean for the most in UIS history. He pitched into the sixth inning, and allowed five runs and seven hits. Mason Coon and Ian Delleman combined to get the final 11 outs, eight of them by strikeouts.

Offensively, UIS had 16 hits in the opener, including three each by Asher Bradd, Brandon Bannon, and Austin Alderman. Bradd and Alderman both scored three times, and Bradd, Brant Vanaman, and Bobby Barnard had two RBI. Bradd, Brayden Gorecki, and Alderman all hit homers.

In the second game, UIS scored nine times in the first three innings to put the game out of reach. The Prairie Stars combined to hit the long ball, with two homers by Alderman, and one each by Zion Pettigrew, Kal Youngquist, and Vanaman. Pettigrew had team-highs with three hits and four RBI, and Bradd, Bannon, Vanaman, and Alderman each scored two times.

On the mound, Quinn Gudaitis earned the win after throwing four innings. He allowed no runs and two hits, and he struck out six.

UIS is now 16-4 on the season. The Prairie Stars and Saints will play their third and final game of the series on Sunday.
