The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball came up just short on Thursday night at TRAC when a last-second shot was off the mark. The Prairie Stars fell to Southwest Baptist by a 52-51 margin.
Â
The Prairie Stars and Bearcats traded the lead five times in the final three minutes, including when Southwest Baptist went ahead 52-51 with seven seconds left. UIS got a good look at a three-pointer, but it was just off the mark as time expired.
Â
UIS has been one of the top free-throw shooting teams in the nation this year, but it couldn't match Southwest Baptist at the line. The Bearcats made all 12 of their attempts, while UIS was nine-of-13 on the night.
Â
The Prairie Stars defense had another good night, holding the Bearcats to 38.8 percent shooting from the field and 15.4 percent from three-point range. UIS also forced 20 turnovers. Offensively though, UIS shot just 35.7 percent, including under 20 from three-point land.
Â
Malea Jackson had the first double-double of her career with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Lauren Ladowski added 14 points, and she had five steals. That duo was 13-of-30 from the field.
Â
UIS falls to 15-8 overall and 10-7 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars will have their final home regular season game on Saturday versus Rockhurst.
