University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball player
Lauren Ladowski became the school's all-time scoring leader on Monday night in Kansas City, Mo. Ladowski finished the day with 1,358 points, which is 10 more than the previous record set by Megan Bergerud in 2014.
Â
Ladowski, who needed 14 points coming into the game to tie the record, scored just a pair of free throws in the first quarter. She then exploded for 14 points in the second quarter to first tie, and then break the record. She tied the record with baseline jumper with 2:24 left in the half. Just over a minute later, she stole the ball on defense and went coast-to-coast for the record-setting layup.
Â
Ladowski finished the game with 24 points, the fifth time in the last six games that she hit the 20-point mark. Â She was six-of-14 from the field, and 12-of-16 from the free-throw line.
Â
Ladowski, a two-time GLVC performer, has been the team's top scoring threat since her freshman season. She scored 327 points that season, and averaged 12.6 points per game. She improved her average to 14.3 points per game in 2019-20, and had 330 total points. In last year's shorted season, Ladowski averaged 18.8 points per game, and scored 381. This season, she has 320 points, and is averaging 17.8 per game.
Â
Ladowski has made 413 field goals in her career, which is third in UIS history. Thirty-nine of those field goals have been from behind the arc. Additionally, she has made a school record 493 free throws. Besides her offense, Ladowski is also the school's all-time leader in steals.
Â
Ladowski scoring has helped UIS have its best four-game stretch since moving to the NCAA level, including improving to 12-6 this year with the win over Rockhurst.
