The University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team fell short in its bid for a GLVC road win on Monday night in Kansas City, Mo. The Prairie Stars fell to Rockhurst by a 73-64 score.
Â
The game was close throughout, with UIS enjoying a 32-30 lead at halftime. In the second half, neither team led by more than three points for the first 12 minutes of the half. UIS led 45-42 with 11:53 remaining, but Rockhurst went on an 11-0 run over the next five-plus minutes of action. UIS quickly cut that lead to three, but the Hawks responded with seven straight that essentially put the game away.
Â
The difference in the game was Rockhurst's ability to get to the free-throw line, as well as keeping UIS off of it. The Prairie Stars attempted just three free throws, and made two. Rockhurst, meanwhile, shot 23, and scored 16 from there. That helped the Hawks overcome UIS having both more field goals and three-pointers in the game.
Â
Chase Robinson led the team with 20 points on nine-of-15 shooting.
Jordan Rice collected 14 points and
Evan Altman had 12. Both of those players had three three-pointers.
Jacob Hanna had a season-high 10 rebounds, one more than
Jack Weber. Rice had a team-high four assists.
Â
UIS is now 9-11 on the season and 4-8 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars return home on Thursday evening to face Quincy.
