The University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team won its first tournament of the 2020-21 season on Saturday in Owensboro, Ky. The Prairie Stars hung on for a one-stroke win over McKendree.

UIS led the event after 18 holes as it shot a 316 on day one. Its lead was five shots over Lewis and nine over McKendree. It would need all nine of those over McKendree as the Bearcats shot a tournament best 318 on Saturday. UIS did just enough with a 326, and its final score of 642 won the event by one shot.

The Prairie Stars had three individuals in the top-five. Jennifer Queller was second overall. She had a tournament-best 75 during the first round, and finished with an 80 for a two-day total of 155. Madison DeRousse was fourth with a 159. Her tournament was highlighted by a hole-in-one in the first round. That came on the 165-yard, hole 12 at the Pearl Club. Ocean Pangan finished fifth with a 160, including a 78 in round one.

Paula Valdivia finished just outside the top-10 with a two-day total of 168. Kathryn Gleason rounded out the team with a 177. Brianna Harwell competed as an individual and shot a 185.

The UIS women's golf team will end its regular season on April 11-12 at the Triton Invitational in St. Louis, Mo.
