Lauren Ladowski hit a major milestone and the University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team picked up another road victory. The Prairie Stars defeated Southwest Baptist on Saturday in Bolivar, Mo. by a 63-58 score.
Â
Ladowski hit a three-pointer with 1:30 left in the third quarter, which put her over 1,000 career points. She is the fourth Prairie Stars player to reach that milestone, and the first since
Shelbi Patterson in 2018. Ladowski finished the game with 1,009 career points in her 68th career game, and her current career average of 14.8 points a game is on pace to be the second-highest in program history.
Â
UIS needed another fourth-quarter comeback after trailing 48-43 after three quarters. It was down eight early in the period, but the Prairie Stars didn't allow a field goal for nearly seven and a half minutes.
Malea Jackson put UIS ahead for good with 2:31 left, and the team made six free throws after that to clinch the win.
Â
UIS's defense held Southwest Baptist to 35.8 percent shooting from the field and 23.1 percent from three-point range. In the second half, the Bearcats made just 31 percent from the field and three-of-15 from behind the arc. UIS had five more rebounds and only turned the ball over nine times.
Â
Ladowski finished with 28 points on the day. She was seven-of-11 from the field and 13-of-18 from the free throw line. She also grabbed seven rebounds, and had three assists and two steals. Jackson finished with 16 points, including a pair of three-pointers.
Jalyn Harris grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Grace Weber had three assists and three steals, and
Ellie Mitchell had seven points and three assists.
Â
UIS improves to 10-9 overall, and reaches double-figure wins for the second time in its NCAA era. The Prairie Stars need just one win in the final week of the regular season to finish above .500 for the first time since 1998-99. UIS will be home next Thursday against nationally-ranked Drury.
