Women's Soccer Looks To Clinch GLVC Tournament Spot In Final Two Regular Season Games

10/27/2021 2:30:00 PM

The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team has a big week as it looks to make a final push for a GLVC Tournament bid, as well as setting program records for wins and conference wins. UIS will have to do it on the road with a Friday game at Missouri S&T, and a Sunday contest versus Drury.

UIS is currently 7-5-2 overall, and 5-5-1 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are in eighth-place in the GLVC standings, with the top eight advancing to the conference tournament. A pair of wins will clinch a spot in the tournament, while anything else would require some help around the league.

The Prairie Stars have already secured their second-best winning percentage in program history. They are two victories away from tying the program record for most wins in a season, and are also two wins away from their most GLVC victories in a season.

The Prairie Stars went 1-1-0 last week. UIS defeated Southwest Baptist by a 2-1 margin, but fell 1-0 to Rockhurst.

On the season, UIS has now allowed one or fewer goal in 10 of its 14 games. The Prairie Stars are ninth in the league with a 1.10 GAA. The program ranks eighth with a 1.36 goals per game average.

Sierra Cenek enters the final week of play ranked second in the league with 0.54 goals per game, and fifth with 1.15 points per contest. Lauren Griffin is third with 0.33 assists a contest. Allison Mirimanian is tenth with a 1.10 GAA, ninth with a .802 save percentage, and fourth with 4.64 saves per game.

Each individual GLVC school will determine their own attendance policy for women's soccer. Please check the policies of the home teams if interested in attending a contest. (MST | Drury)
