Women's Soccer Has Two Road Games As It Looks To Maintain Spot In GLVC Standings

10/13/2021 9:20:00 AM

The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team hits the road this week for a pair of GLVC contests. The Prairie Stars start the road trip at William Jewell on Friday, followed by an important contest on Sunday at Truman State.

UIS enters the week averaging 1.71 points per GLVC game, which places it fourth in the conference standings. Right below the Prairie Stars is Truman State, with 1.67 points per game. The Prairie Stars are 6-3-1 overall this season, and 4-3-0 in conference action.

Last week, the Prairie Stars earned a dramatic 2-1 victory over Quincy. UIS trailed 1-0 until Sierra Cenek drew a penalty kick with just 3:29 remaining. Allison Hackett scored to send the game into overtime. In overtime, Cenek was again in the right place as she found a loose ball in the box after a free kick, and scored the game-winner.

UIS has used late game magic often this season. Eight of the team's 14 goals have come with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation, or in an overtime period. Six of those goals either tied the game, or put the Prairie Stars ahead by just a single goal.

Among the team's leaders this year are Angela Dagnino, Maggie Joos, and Sokol. All three of those players have played every minute on the season, anchoring the team's defense and providing an offensive spark.

Each individual GLVC school will determine their own attendance policy for women's soccer. Please check the policies of the home teams if interested in attending a contest. (William Jewell | Truman State)
