University of Illinois Springfield men's track and field runner Blake Jones was named the GLVC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Friday. Jones is the first UIS track and field runner to earn the conference's weekly honor.
 
Jones opened up the 2021 indoor track season last weekend at the Bob Eubanks Open. He won the 3,000m race in a time of 8:08.56. That time was a new school record and the fastest-time in NCAA Division II this season. He earned a NCAA Division II Provisional mark, and was less than five seconds away from the NCAA Division II Automatic standard.
 
Jones adds to a great 2020-21 school year, which includes him winning the 2020 GLVC Individual Cross Country Championship.
