Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Chase Robinson Makes Clutch Plays Down The Stretch In Victory Over Lindenwood

In a head-to-head matchup between two of the top scorers in the GLVC, University of Illinois Springfield's Chase Robinson made the biggest plays late in the game which gave the Prairie Stars an 82-76 victory over Lindenwood on Thursday night at TRAC.

UIS led for most of the second half, but an 11-0 run late in the game put the Lions up 74-73 with 1:28 remaining. Robinson connected on a layup on the next UIS possession, but Lindenwood's TJ Crockett, the league's top scorer, quickly answered on the other end. Robinson responded with a three-pointer with 40 seconds left to give UIS a 78-76 lead, and would prove to be the game-winning shot.

On the next Lions' possession, Crockett got in the lane, but tough defense by Robinson forced a missed shot, and the Prairie Stars got the ball. Robinson was fouled, and made two free throws with 24 seconds left, and Lindenwood was unable to score on its remaining possessions.

The game was very even statistically. The main difference was UIS making 23-of-27 free throws in the game, compared to 19-of-26 for Lindenwood. UIS also had two more three-pointers and edged out the Lions in rebounds and fewest turnovers.

Robinson finished with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block. He also led the team with a +10 plus/minus. Matt Wnedling had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. He made four three-pointers. Trey Marble had 17 points, including seven-of-seven from the free-throw line. Jack Weber had 16 points on seven-of-eight shooting from the field. Yamani Shareef had a +7 plus/minus off the bench, including a big three-pointer which started a 10-0 run early in the second half.

UIS improved to 5-3 on the season. The Prairie Stars will next travel to Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.
