Women's Basketball Scores Season-High In Overtime Loss

The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team scored a season-high in points in its fourth overtime game of the 2019-20 season. The Prairie Stars fell victim though to a late Southwest Baptist run as UIS lost on the road to the Bearcats by an 85-83 score.
 
UIS shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, and it held a 40-39 lead at halftime. The Prairie Stars did not trail in the second half until the final minutes. The two teams were tied at 72 when Southwest Baptist hit two free throws to take the lead with 39 seconds left. Tehya Fortune came right back down with a layup seven seconds later, and after a defensive stop, the two teams went into overtime.
 
UIS came out quickly and it led 83-77 with 1:54 left. But, the Bearcats ended the game with an 8-0 run to steal the victory away from the Prairie Stars. The big shot came with UIS leading 83-81, when Southwest Baptist hit a three-pointer with 29 seconds left to take the lead for good. UIS had a layup attempt in the final seconds, but the team's best chance to regain the lead was blocked away.
 
UIS finished the game shooting 43.8 percent from the field, compared to 39.1 percent for the Bearcats. UIS also had a +4 rebounding margin. The two teams combined for 56 free throws, with Southwest Baptist going 26-of-31, and UIS making 21-of-25.
 
Lauren Ladowski finished with a team-high 20 points. She made seven-of-10 from the field and also led the team with three assists. Malea Jackson finished with 14 points, and Jasmine Sangster and Fortune each had 11. Katelyn Rosner just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, and she led the team with four steals. Lanie Hicks chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.
 
UIS falls to 7-14 overall and 2-11 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are at No. 1 Drury on Saturday afternoon.
