Women's Basketball Hits 10 Three-Pointers In Loss At Lindenwood

The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team hit double-figure three-pointers for the third time on the season, but that wasn't enough to overcome Lindenwood's advantage in the paint on Thursday night in St. Charles, Mo. The Prairie Stars fell to the Lions by an 82-62 margin.

UIS fell in an early hole in the game, and could not get out of it. The Prairie Stars trailed by as many as 10 in the first quarter, before cutting the deficit to 19-17 at the end of 10 minutes. Lindenwood started the second quarter on a 16-2 run to extend its lead to 16, before leading at the break by a 41-32 score.

Lindenwood led by double-figures for most of the second half, until UIS cut it to nine at 63-54 with 6:50 left in the game. The Prairie Stars forced a miss shot, but the Lions got the offensive rebound and scored on the putback. UIS couldn't get back within single-digits, and a late 9-0 run by Lindenwood made the final score look worse than the game really was.

UIS won the battle behind the arc, having a 10-6 advantage in made three-pointers, and holding the Lions to just 26.1 percent shooting from three-point range. Lindenwood scored 48 points in the paint though, compared to just 22 for the Prairie Stars. The Lions also went to the free-throw line 19 times in the game, while UIS had just four trips to the charity stripe.

Makenna Fee made five-of-seven from the field and finished with a team-high 11 points. Tehya Fortune was also in double-figures with 10 points. Jasmine Sangster had nine points, and team-highs of five rebounds and two assists. Malea Jackson and Lanie Hicks both finished with eight points, and Hicks had a team-high +3 plus/minus. Grace Weber also had a positive plus/minus, and led the team with two steals.

UIS falls to 9-18 overall and 4-15 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars end their season on Saturday afternoon at Missouri-St. Louis.
