Daniel Soetan threatened the University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball single-game NCAA scoring record on Thursday night, and led the Prairie Stars to a GLVC win while doing it. UIS defeated Missouri S&T at TRAC by an 87-74 margin.

Soetan finished the night with 33 points, three shy of the record but still the most for a Prairie Star since 2009. He was 10-of-16 from the field, including four-of-five from three-point range. He also made nine-of-10 free throws. He was hot early, scoring 17 points as UIS had a 40-34 lead after halftime. In the second half, Soetan scored 12 of his 16 points in the final 10 minutes to help UIS pull away late.

Soetan's teammates were also efficient on offense, as UIS shot 51.7 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from three-point range, and 88.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Matt Wendling made six-of-10 shots, and finished with 15 points.
Chase Robinson and
Keymonta Johnson were also in double-figures, and both shot over 50 percent from the field.

Johnson led the team with six assists and two blocks, while Soetan had a team-high seven rebounds. Soetan and
Jesus Castillo both had a pair of steals.
Aundrae Williams finished with three assists and no turnovers.

UIS improves to 13-10 overall and 6-9 in GLVC play with the victory. The Prairie Stars will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. home game against Maryville.
