The University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team earned another last second win on Saturday afternoon at TRAC. The Prairie Stars celebrated Senior Day with an 82-79 victory over Maryville on a
Matt Wendling three-pointer with 0.3 seconds remaining in the game.

Both teams came out hot offensively, with Maryville shooting over 60 percent in the first half and making seven three-pointers, while UIS shot 58.1 percent and connected on eight three-pointers. When the dust settled, Maryville had a 47-45 halftime lead.

The defenses started to take control of the game in a competitive second half, which saw neither team have a lead larger than six points. Maryville held a 79-76 lead with two minutes remaining, but
Daniel Soetan tied the contest with a three-point play at the 1:54 mark.

Both teams missed a pair of three-pointers in the final 92 seconds, and on the last Prairie Stars miss, Soetan grabbed the rebound to give UIS the final shot. After a timeout, Soetan drove right before a pass in the opposite direction to Wendling near the top of the key. Wendling knocked down his third three-pointer of the game to give UIS the victory.

UIS ended the game shooting 49.2 percent from the field, including making 14 three-pointers and shooting 46.9 percent from three-point range. Maryville shot 51.8 percent from the field, but made just four-of-16 three-pointers in the second half. UIS forced 14 turnovers in the game, and turned them into 18 points off turnovers, eight more than the Saints.

Soetan, one of three seniors on this year's roster finished with 27 points. He made nine-of-17 from the field and three three-pointers. He also had team-highs of eight rebounds, six assists, one block, and two steals. The other senior to play was
Kaj Days, who had three rebounds in 12 minutes, and he had a +3 plus/minus in the game. The third senior is
Bahari Amaya, who will not see action in his final year.

Chase Robinson finished with 20 points on eight-of-12 shooting, including four three-poitners. Wendling had 11 points and six rebounds.
Jesus Castillo hit three three-pointers and had nine points, and
Keymonta Johnson finished with eight points.

UIS improves to 14-10 overall and 7-9 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars, who have won five straight at home, will conclude their home campaign on Thursday night against Southern Indiana.
