The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team stayed hot on Sunday as it swept a GLVC doubleheader against Maryville. The Prairie Stars won by scores of 14-6 and 10-3.

UIS has now won four straight contests, and the offense has scored double-figure runs in each game. On Sunday, it had 31 hits to help it get the pair of wins over Drury.

In the opener, UIS trailed 6-5 midway through the game, but a five-run fifth inning gave it the lead for good. Drury got the first two batters out in the inning, but the Prairie Stars had six straight hits, including four that went for extra bases.
Ben Schanding had two-run homer to put UIS up for good, and
Chris Monroe followed with back-to-back homers.

UIS added four more runs after that, and relievers
Nick Alvarado and
Ryan Jemar did not allow a run for the final three innings.
Justin Revels pitched the first six innings and won his fourth game of the year. Only two of the runs he allowed were earned. He gave up six hits in six innings, and struck out eight.

Monroe,
Zach Speaker, and
Ruben Markham all had three hits and two RBI. Schanding and Monroe led the team with three runs apiece. Five players had two RBI in Schanding, Monroe, Speaker, Markham, and
Brandon Bannon.

In the second game, UIS scored a run in six of its eight at-bats, and it never trailed in a 10-3 victory.

Andrew Dean improved to 5-0 on the season after throwing the first seven innings. He allowed four hits, three runs, just one earned run, and one walk. He struck out six hitters in the game.
Brayden Jensen and
R.D. Lutze each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Monroe had another three-hit game and drove in three more runs.
Austin Alderman had four hits.
John Sechen, Schanding, and Markham all scored twice, and
Nick Mayerhofer had two RBI.

UIS improves to 18-7-1 on the season, and 9-5 in GLVC play. UIS and Drury will concluded their series tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game.
