University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's basketball junior
Jasmine Sangster turned in 18 points against William Jewell College during Saturday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup in Liberty, Mo.
The Cardinals (11-10, 5-8) charged past the Prairie Stars (7-14, 4-9) with an 85-60 victory. William poured in 29 first-quarter points to lead 29-13. The Cardinals held a 47-23 advantage at halftime and pulled ahead to a 72-38 lead after three quarters. UIS outscored William Jewell 22-13 in the fourth quarter.
Tehya Fortune provided 10 points and a team-high five rebounds for the Prairie Stars while
Val Meissner also added 10 points.
Chasitee Shroyer contributed five points.
Lauren Ladowski and
Katelyn Rosner both delivered four points.
Carson Vance tallied three points.
Lanie Hicks and
Brianna Mefford scored two points each while
Ellie Mitchell and
Erin Bolskar rounded out the UIS scoring effort with one point each.
Sangster dished out four assists and Mitchell collected three steals.
Kiara Bradley led William Jewell with 18 points. Lea Finn notched 17 points. Kayla Harrell recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Antoinette Mussorici and Harrell provided four assists apiece while Natalie Closser blocked two shots.
William Jewell rolled to a 50-26 rebounding advantage.
The Cardinals turned in a strong shooting effort by converting 31-of-61 (50.8 percent) shots from the field and 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) attempts from 3-point range. William Jewell knocked down 17-of-27 (63.0 percent) shots from the floor in the first half. The Prairie Stars hit 17-of-57 (29.8 percent) attempts from the field and 5-of-20 (25 percent) shots from the perimeter.
UIS drained 21-of-31 (67.7 percent) shots from the free-throw line while William Jewell made 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) attempts from charity stripe.
The Cardinals turned the ball over 19 times while the Prairie Stars committed 13 turnovers.
UIS is scheduled for two Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchups next week. The Prairie Stars battle Bellarmine University (11-9, 5-7) on Thursday at 4:45 p.m. CT in Louisville, Ky. UIS then takes on the University of Southern Indiana (15-7, 8-4) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Evansville, Ind.
