University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's basketball junior
Katelyn Rosner recorded season-highs of 10 points and three blocks during Thursday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup against Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.
Bellarmine (12-9, 6-7) pulled away from the Prairie Stars (7-15, 4-10) in the second half to secure a 75-54 victory. The game remaining a single-possession contest for the entirety of the first quarter.
Jasmine Sangster sank two free throws with 35 seconds left in the quarter, giving UIS a 12-10 lead, which held up for the remainder of the period.
The Knights gained momentum to take a 27-20 lead with 5 minutes, 22 seconds left in the second quarter. UIS responded by scoring the next six points, which included two fast-break layups from
Lauren Ladowski, which made the contest a one-point game. Bellarmine scored the next five points and carried a 32-26 lead into halftime.
The Knights steadily separated themselves from the Prairie Stars and held a 52-37 advantage in the third quarter. Bellarmine outscored UIS 23-17 in the fourth quarter.
Ladowski led the Prairie Stars with 13 points.
Val Meissner provided 10 points.
Chasitee Shroyer contributed eight points. Sangster and
Carson Vance each added four points.
Tehya Fortune turned in three points and
Ellie Mitchell rounded out the UIS scoring effort with two points. Mitchell collected a team-high six rebounds.
Liza Tibbs paced the Knights with 16 points while converting 7-of-9 (77.8 percent) shots from the field. Breia Torrens dished out four assists. Ally Mayhaus and Lauren Deel each pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Deel also blocked two shots.
Bellarmine outrebounded UIS by a 36-26 margin. The Knights also finished plus-eight on turnovers. UIS committed 20 turnovers and Bellarmine turned the ball over 12 times.
The Knights knocked down 33-of-66 (50 percent) shots from the floor and 3-of-11 (27.3 percent) attempts from 3-point range. UIS hit 21-of-48 (43.8 percent) attempts from the field and 6-of-13 (46.2 percent) shots from the perimeter.
The Knights sank 6-of-8 (75 percent) shots from the free-throw line while UIS made 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.
Bellarmine packed it in down low, scoring 54-of-75 (72 percent) of its points in the paint. The Knights also distributed their scoring, receiving 35 points from the bench.
UIS takes on the University of Southern Indiana (16-7, 9-4) in a GLVC matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Evansville, Ind.
