The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's basketball team fell to the University of Southern Indiana in a 74-47 during Saturday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup in Evansville, Ind.
Southern Indiana (17-7, 10-4) held onto a 19-17 lead after the first quarter. The Screaming Eagles outscored UIS (7-16, 4-11) by a 23-5 margin in the second quarter to carry a 42-22 lead into halftime. UIS narrowed its deficit to 53-42 after three quarters. The Screaming Eagles outscored the Prairie Stars 21-5 in the fourth quarter.
Katelyn Rosner led the Prairie Stars after missing a double-double by one rebound. She recorded 10 points and nine rebounds for UIS.
Jasmine Sangster and
Lauren Ladowski provided nine points apiece.
Val Meissner contributed eight points.
Tehya Fortune scored four points,
Carson Vance added three points, while
Brianna Mefford and
Ellie Mitchell rounded out the UIS scoring effort with two points. Mefford also tallied nine rebounds and three blocks.
Imani Guy put together a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Screaming Eagles in both categories. Emma DeHart produced 16 points. Kacy Eschweiler turned in 11 points. Alex Davidson contributed seven assists and eight rebounds.
The Screaming Eagles limited themselves to just eight turnovers. UIS turned the ball over 14 times.
Southern Indiana held a 45-36 advantage on the boards.
The Screaming Eagles converted 29-of-66 (43.9 percent) shots from the field and 7-of-21 (33.3 percent) attempts from 3-point range. UIS hit 18-of-57 (31.6 percent) attempts from the floor and 6-of-23 (26.1 percent) shots from the perimeter.
Southern Indiana drained 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) shots from the free-throw line while UIS knocked down 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.
The Prairie Stars are only scheduled for one game next week as they clash with McKendree University (12-12, 6-9) in GLVC action next Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lebanon.
