Mefford Matches Career High in Scoring against Rockhurst

University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's basketball sophomore Brianna Mefford matched her career high of 12 points during Thursday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup in Kansas City, Mo.
 
Rockhurst University (7-13, 3-9) earned a 69-57 victory against the Prairie Stars (7-13, 4-8). Rockhurst held a 24-19 lead after the first quarter and entered halftime with a 38-27 advantage. The Hawks extended their lead to 52-39 after three quarters. UIS outscored Rockhurst 18-17 in the fourth quarter.
 
Mefford provided 12 points for the third time in her career. The 6-foot-2 center from Lawrenceville also recorded nine rebounds.
 
Val Meissner led the Prairie Stars with 16 points while making 3-of-5 (60 percent) shots from 3-point range. Tehya Fortune contributed 11 points and five assists. Lauren Ladowski turned in six points. Jasmine Sangster and Katelyn Rosner each scored four points while Gabrielle Sanders and Chasitee Shroyer each rounded out the UIS scoring effort with two points.
 
Madeline Ronshausen poured in 29 points and dished out five assists for the Hawks. Briahtia Sebek notched 15 points and Meghan Urbanski tallied 12 points. Kaci German pulled down 11 rebounds while Urbanski and Lauren Krissman each collected three steals.
 
Rockhurst outrebounded UIS 39-29. The Hawks held a 12-5 advantage on offensive rebounds, which led to a 17-5 advantage in second-chance points.
 
UIS committed 14 turnovers and Rockhurst outscored the Prairie Stars 19-7 off turnovers. The Hawks turned the ball over 12 times.
 
Rockhurst converted 27-of-62 (43.5 percent) shots from the field and 8-of-20 (40 percent) attempts from the perimeter. UIS knocked down 20-of-54 (37.0 percent) attempts from the floor and 6-of-17 (35.3 percent) shots from behind the arc.
 
The Prairie Stars sank 11-of-14 (78.6 percent) shots from the free-throw line while the Hawks made 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.
 
UIS clashes with William Jewell College (10-10, 4-8) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Liberty, Mo.
