The UIS men's basketball team completed a perfect record at the 2019 Prairie Stars Tipoff Classic after defeating Parkside on Saturday night at TRAC with a 78-70 win over Parkside.

The two teams were tied at 32 at halftime, but UIS took an early lead in the second half and never trailed the rest of the way. The game was still close though, with the Prairie Stars leading just 74-70 with 2:24 remaining. UIS's defense took over the game, forcing turnovers on three straight possessions to help it pull away at the end.

UIS won the game at the three-point stripe. The Prairie Stars made 15 three-pointers, and shot 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. Defensively, they held Parkside to six three-pointers and 28.6 percent shooting. UIS also had a big advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Rangers 40-28.

Keymonta had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, including six offensive boards. Jesus Castillo had a team-high 24 points, including making eight-of-12 from three-point range. Daniel Soetan finished with 15 points, and Chase Robinson had 10. Johnson also led the team with six assists and two steals.
