SOMERS, WI – University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's basketball standout
Shelbi Patterson eclipsed 1,000 career points during Thursday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (UW-Parkside).

Mark Kost said. "She has been a joy to coach and has helped us build our program."

The Rangers (8-15, 4-7) jumped to out to an early lead top the Prairie Stars (10-9, 4-7) in a 67-57 victory.

"We got off to a slow start, but we were able to get back in the game in the second half. We had opportunities to make it a one-possession game, but we had breakdowns that hurt us."

Patterson led the Prairie Stars with 15 points and seven rebounds. The 5-foot-9 senior guard from Indianapolis, IN hit 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) shots from the free-throw line.
Chasitee Shroyer turned in 13 points.
Lanie Hicks notched nine points.
Tehya Fortune recorded seven points and four steals.
Katelyn Rosner scored six points,
Jasmine Sangster added five points and
Grace Weber rounded out the UIS scoring effort with two points.

Ali Bettencourt cashed in 21 points for the Rangers. Hayley Maystead posted 18 points and 14 rebounds. Georgie Eishold also collected three steals.

UW-Parkside knocked down 20-of-52 (38.5 percent) shots from the field and 9-of-18 (50 percent) attempts from 3-point range. UIS was held to a 26.3-percent (15-of-57) shooting effort from the floor and a 4-of-21 (19.0 percent) from the perimeter.

The Prairie Stars converted 23-of-28 (82.1 percent) shots from the free-throw line while the Rangers made 18-of-29 (62.1 percent) shots from the charity stripe.

UW-Parkside held a 42-41 rebounding edge over UIS. The Rangers committed 15 turnovers while the Prairie Stars turned the ball over 11 times.

The Prairie Stars rolled to a 16-2 advantage over the Rangers in points off turnovers.

UW-Parkside took an 11-6 lead with 1 minute, 10 seconds left in the first quarter and held a multi-possession lead the rest of the way. The Rangers added a basket to close the first quarter with a 13-6 lead. During the second quarter, UW-Parkside led by as many as 14 points before entering halftime with a 26-17 advantage. The Rangers extended their lead to 43-32 through three quarters and UIS outscored UW-Parkside 25-24 in the fourth quarter.

The Prairie Stars close the GLVC weekend by clashing with Bellarmine University (12-9, 7-5) on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT in Louisville, KY.
