UIS Tangles with No. 16 McKendree/USI

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team continues its Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) season with home matches against McKendree University and the University of Southern Indiana (USI).
 
SETTING THE SCENE
UIS (6-2-2, 3-2-1) tangles with McKendree University (6-0-1, 4-0-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium. The Prairie Stars encounter USI (4-2-2, 2-1-2) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium. McKendree is ranked No. 16 in the latest United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA Division II poll.
 
WHAT'S HAPPENING LATELY
Maryville University (5-2-1, 4-1-1) rallied to a 2-1 conference victory over UIS last Friday. Amanda Meyer scored her first goal of the season. Taylor Mraz netted a goal as UIS earned a 1-0 GLVC win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) (2-5-1, 1-5) last Sunday. Paloma Guijarro compiled her third shutout of the season.
 
McKendree battled to a scoreless double-overtime draw with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (1-7-1, 0-5-1) last Friday. The Bearcats rounded out the GLVC weekend by rolling to a 4-0 victory over Lewis University (4-4, 3-3) last Sunday.
 
USI fought to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with the University of Indianapolis (4-3-1, 3-2-1) last Friday. The Screaming Eagles finished the conference weekend with a 2-0 win over UW-Parkside last Sunday
 
STARS OF NOTE
Karisa Rogers leads the Prairie Stars with four goals. The junior forward from St. Charles, MO is tied for second among GLVC leaders in goals. Meghan Delaney has notched nine points behind three goals and three assists. Emily Matsen has produced three goals while Taylor Mraz has contributed seven points off two goals and three assists. Matsen and Mraz have delivered two game-winning goals apiece. Kaylan Mills has also dished out three assists and Madisyn Coudriet has tallied two goals. Paloma Guijarro has put together three shutouts and an .864 save percentage.
 
 
A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS
UIS dropped a 1-0 loss to McKendree last season. The Bearcats are led by Sydnee Carroll, who tops GLVC leaders in points (17) and goals (6). Carroll has provided two game-winning goals and is tied for first in the conference with five assists. Alynnah O'Leary is tied for second in the conference with four goals. Madyson Mossman and Grace Neidhart have netted two goals apiece while Liz Kaiser and Rachel Kaltwasser have added two assists each. Zoe Brochu leads the conference with a .929 save percentage. McKendree currently leads the GLVC standings.
 
USI took down UIS in a 4-0 win last season. Madelyne Juenger leads the Screaming Eagles with nine points behind three goals and three assists. Among GLVC leaders, Juenger is tied for second in points and tied for sixth in goals. Maggie Winter has contributed three goals and two assists. She is tied fifth in the conference for points (8) and tied for sixth in goals. Sunny Lehman is also tied for sixth in the conference with three goals. Haley Rheinlander has contributed six points off two goals and two assists. Both of Rheinlander's goals have been game-winning goals. Taylor McCormick and Carlie Scales have dished out two assists apiece.
 
KEY DECISIONS
UIS captured the program's first win over a ranked opponent on Sept. 5 with a 1-0 victory over Lindenwood University (3-5), ranked No.25 in the nation at the time. The Prairie Stars also fought to a 1-1 tie with Truman State University (4-2-2, 4-1-1) on Sept. 10.
 
The Bearcats earned a 1-0 victory on Sept. 15 over Bellarmine University (3-1-2, 2-1-2), which was ranked No. 8 in the nation at the time. Two days later, USI battled to a scoreless draw with Bellarmine.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
UIS hits the road for two conference matches. The Prairie Stars venture to Louisville, KY to take on Bellarmine on Friday at 2:55 p.m. (ET). UIS then invades Indianapolis, IN to battle Indianapolis on Sunday at 12 p.m.
 
UIS DIVISION II RECORD BOOK WATCH
Matsen sits in a first-place tie in career game-winning goals. Rogers currently ranks third in career goals (9) and career points (21). Taylor Mraz is also tied for fourth with six career assists.
