The UIS women's soccer team (7-5-3, 5-4-3) played Southwest Baptist (5-7-3, 3-6-2) to a 1-1 tie on Saturday at Kiwanis Stadium.
Bridget Lyons scored off
Riley Lloyd's assist at 83:26 to equalize for the Prairie Stars after they had trailed 1-0.
The Prairie Stars generated first-half pressure, taking eight shots and four corner kicks but not breaking through. Lloyd had two shots saved, while
Autumn Diduch and
Alaina Stock also put shots on goal against Cece Alexander. The Stars earned three corner kicks from 38:40 to 41:00, and the half finished scoreless.
The Bearcats scored in the 56th minute when Juana Fernandez Calvo shot one across the goal and into the lower left corner. UIS erased the 1-0 deficit when Lyons scored off Lloyd's corner at 83:26. The Prairie Stars had two late looks after the equalizer, with
Kalli Drexler hitting the top woodwork at 89:27 and Lyons adding another shot at 89:44.Â
Lyons scored the Prairie Stars' goal, an equalizing tally, and led the team with three shots. Lloyd recorded the assist and put both of her shots on goal.
"Today was a tough result for us after doing so much to move the ball and create chances," said head coach
Scott Myers. "I was glad we found a way to come from behind and tie it up, and hitting the crossbar in the final moments was tough. You aren't going to find many games where you outshoot an opponent 17-1 and tie, but credit to their team for defending well and keeping the ball out of the net. We know we need wins in our final two games, so we'll get back to work on Monday."
The Prairie Stars recognized Cancer Awareness during Saturday's game, highlighting the mission of the Tessa Sutton Foundation.
"I really appreciate all the energy the team showed in supporting the cancer awareness effort this week, especially getting to celebrate the mission that Tessa and her family have set out on through the Tessa Sutton Foundation."
UIS will be home for its final two regular season games. The Stars are preparing to meet McKendree on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Rockhurst on Saturday at noon.Â
