SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (7-7, 2-1) picked up a dominating 8-1 win yesterday against McKendree University but fell to the University of Indianapolis 9-0 to end the weekend. Against the Bearcats, five of the singles matches were taken by UIS after sweeping the doubles portion to pick up their second GLVC victory.
Against McKendree,
Sharon Danquah and
Jane Carter topped their doubles opponents 8-4 in the top spot while Kene Bere and
Kaitlyn Thornhill did the same at number two by way of 8-3.
Danielle Mendoza and
Maegan Flight took an 8-4 win in the third spot.
In dominating fashion, UIS rolled through singles as Carter won 6-1, 6-1 and Danquah 6-0, 6-2. Bere and Flight surrendered just four games between the two matches as Bere won 6-1, 6-0 and Flight 6-3, 6-4. In the fifth spot, Mendoza won 6-3, 6-4.
After taking care of McKendree and moving to 2-0 in GLVC play, UIS fell to UIndy 9-0 in their fifth straight home match. In doubles, Flight and Mendoza held a 7-4 lead, but couldn't hold on, falling 9-7 as the Greyhounds swept doubles.
During singles competition, Bere and Flight each went to three sets, but couldn't prevail as Bere fell 3-6, 7-6, 5-10 and Flight 6-2, 0-6, 1-6.
UIS will conclude the home portion of their schedule on Thursday when they take on NAIA opponent Missouri Baptist for an 11 AM first serve at Washington Park. This match will serve as senior day for
Danielle Mendoza, who is the lone senior on this year's team.
