Knights Blank Prairie Stars

LOUISVILLE, KY – Bellarmine University blanked the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) men's soccer team with a 3-0 victory during Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup.

The Knights (6-4, 4-4) did their damage early by jumping out to a 3-0 lead over the Prairie Stars (5-5-1, 5-3-1) in the first half. Bellarmine outshot UIS by a 20-to-1 margin in the first half.

"We struggled on their turf," UIS coach Adam Hall said. "We couldn't connect passes in the first half."

Callum Southern put Bellarmine on the board 11 minutes into the match after he recovered a failed clearance and found the back of the net. The Knights went up by two scores after Jonas Skulstad converted a header off a corner kick from Greg Fischer, who was credited with the assist. Micah Linscott put Bellarmine ahead by three goals after he rebounded his own shot and scored.

During the second half, UIS limited Bellarmine to four shots.

"We went with a more direct approach in the second half."

The Knights held a 24-to-4 shot advantage and topped the Prairie Stars in shots on goal by a 10-to-3 margin.

Bellarmine goalkeeper saved each of the three shots he faced. Kyle Hamilton served as a goalkeeper for the first half and rejected five of the eight shots he faced. Benjamin Shuty came in relief at goalkeeper during the second half and corralled the only shot he faced.

Josh Moore took two shots, including one shot on goal. Fernando Sanz de Galdeano and Adrian Ortega each registered a shot on target.

UIS faces off with the University of Indianapolis (6-3-1, 5-2-1) for a GLVC matchup on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. (ET) in Indianapolis, IN. Indianapolis is currently fourth in the GLVC standings and UIS is tied for fifth.

"We need a much better performance on Sunday."
