LEBANON, IL --- The Prairie Stars (7-9, 2-5) went on the road and beat GLVC rival McKendree (6-8, 0-5) by a score of 92-89 to pick up their second GLVC win in the last four days.
Paxton Harmon scored a career-high 29 points while
Eddie Longmeyer was one assist shy of a triple-double, scoring 16 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and dishing nine assists.
UIS erased a five-point halftime deficit with a 52-point second half to keep the Bearcats winless in the GLVC. McKendree was coming off three-days rest as their game with William Jewell on Saturday was postponed while the Prairie Stars had to stay on the road to face Rockhurst.
McKendree took an early lead, connecting on a three pointer in their first possession and would not give up that lead the entire first half. The Bearcats extended their lead to as much as eight with 3:17 remaining in the half but UIS would combat that with a 5-0 to keep the game close.
The Prairie Stars tied the game for the first time with 17:19 remaining in regulation on a three from
Vince Walker and then Walker tied the game again at 50 a minute later on a layup leading to a bucket from
Kaj Days to give UIS their first lead at 52-50.
UIS wouldn't lead again until the 6:56 mark when Walker connected on his second triple of the night to give UIS a 72-71 advantage. After McKendree took the lead back at 76-75, Longmeyer drove for a layup to give UIS their final lead of the game with 4:43 remaining.
Layups from
Logan Gonce and Longmeyer stretched the lead to five with 2:28 to go. UIS closed by making six of their final seven free throws of the game to keep the Bearcats at bay.
Longmeyer and Harmon scored the final eight points of the game for UIS and contributed for 45 of the teams 92 points.
Harmon has now socred at least 20 points in three of his last four games, a mark he had not previously reached in his UIS career. Over his last four games, Harmon is averaging 21.5 points and 5.1 rebounds. He did so tonight on 10-of-14 shooting from the field, the first UIS player to make ten shots in a game since
Vince Walker did so against Kentucky State on November 16
th.
Longmeyer notched his career-high with 11 rebounds and nine assists while dropping in 16 points, his sixth highest total of the season. The nine assists is also the single-game high for any UIS player this season.
Zach Steinberg added 15 points and five rebounds while Walker hit two three's in a ten point night.
Logan Gonce led the attack off the bench, scoring 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting the field and hitting a perfect 6-of-6 from the line.
