SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (4-3, 4-1) earned their fourth conference victory in a GLVC showdown against the Saint Joseph Pumas (1-5, 1-3). The Prairie Stars took the early game at 5 pm and it that played in their favor tonight. UIS set the pace in the first half with an early goal from
Mario Falsone and cruised to a 4-1 victory.
Mario Falsone, a freshman is a trending name when it comes to scoring goals. This is the second consecutive week that Falsone scored a goal for the Prairie Stars. He scored the first goal in the game in the 17
th minute. The goal fueled the Prairie Stars and they played with an aggressive attitude for the rest of the game.
Each team received some crucial yellow cards that would put both teams in a bad situation. UIS received three yellow cards on the night compared to Saint Joseph's one.
The UIS yellow card they received in the 46
th minute of the game cost them big time, leading to a penalty kick by the Pumas. Saint Joseph's Danny Yeates scored a goal off of the penalty kick, which tied the game at one.
The Prairie Stars continued to battle and took over the game after that. After a free kick, Senior Zach Allevi scored a goal off a cluster of players trying to get their chance at the ball. Eight minutes after the last goal,
Dylan Stockman scored a goal that would take the life out of the Pumas. The Prairie Stars defense continued to lock down and not let Saint Joseph score another goal.
Jack Coombes put the icing on the cake with a goal late in the second half.
Andrew Mullican provided a lead kick to Coombes to an easy goal. From the sound of the crowd and the team you knew that this match was secured by the Prairie Stars.
The Prairie Stars will look to earn another conference win on Sunday when they welcome in University of Indianapolis. They will play immediately following the conclusion of the women's game at 2:30 pm.
