Prairie Stars Look to Continue Hot Start against UMSL, Maryville

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The women's soccer team has gotten off to the best start in school history, beginning the year 4-1 and a 1-1 record in GLVC play. The conference schedule continues this weekend as they head on the road to face Missouri St. Louis on Friday, followed by a Sunday match-up with Maryville.

SETTING THE SCECNE
As stated, the Prairie Stars began the year by winning their first four games, a feat that hadn't been accomplished since their inception in 2010. Illinois Springfield outscored their opponents 10-1 in the first four games, before falling to Truman State 1-0, breaking their winning streak.

After opening the season with two neutral site games, the Prairie Stars came home for three straight. The final 13 games of the season are all going to be GLVC play after UIS began with three non-conference wins.

BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL
The Prairie Stars are tied for second in the GLVC in goals against average, surrendering just 0.40 goals per game. On the flip side, they are one of just five teams to average at least two goals per game. With that, they rank 3rd in shots, with 84.

In five games, the Prairie Stars have accumulated 28 points, scoring 10 goals and dishing out eight assists. The 28 points sits them fifth in the conference.

SCOUTING MISSOURI – ST. LOUIS
The Tritons come into the matchup with a 1-1 record, only having played two conference games thus far. UMSL won its season opener at Southern Indiana by a score of 2-0 before falling to #8 Bellarmine 2-1 in overtime, again on the road.

Three different players have scored for the Tritons so far with another three players dishing out one assist apiece.

In goal, Emily Rish has played the majority of the minutes, having started both games. She has made five saves and allowed two goals, both to #8 Bellarmine.

SCOUTING MARYVILLE
The Saints enter the weekend with a 1-3 record and 0-2 mark in GLVC play. Maryville began the season with a 2-0 win over Concordia –St. Paul before dropping a 2-1 decision to Lindenwood. Maryville then opened GLVC play with a 1-0 loss to #8 Bellarmine and 3-1 loss to Southern Indiana.

Maryville ranks 14th in scoring average, scoring just one goal per game while surrendering a goal and half to their opponents.  In their four games, the Saints have managed just 26 shots, with just 14 of those being on target. In comparison, UIS has fired 84 shots with 34 on net.

The Saints are led on offense by Allison Verville who has eight shots and two goals, including their only game winner.
