SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Jane Carter breezed through her singles match to pick up her fourth straight singles win, but UIS fell to Washburn 8-1 in their final match leading up to the GLVC season. The Prairie Stars are now 6-9 on the season and have split their last six matches.
Washburn picked up two victories by default on the Prairie Stars, giving them two free points out of the five needed to win. Carter and
Sharon Danquah fell in a tough fought doubles match, losing 8-6 in the top spot.
Danielle Mendoza and
Jasmin Morgan fell 8-2, putting the Prairie Stars in a 3-0 hole going to singles.
Carter won her singles match 6-2, 6-3 and improved her overall record to 13-6 on the season and 10-4 in dual matches. The sophomore holds a 9-4 mark as the top player and is 1-0 playing in the second spot. Danquah, who is second behind Carter with eight wins on the year, fell 6-4, 6-3. Mendoza played the lone three-set match of the day for men's or women's and came up short. Mendoza battled back after losing the first set 6-1 to win the second 6-4. The final set closed at 10-6, giving Washburn the win.
Washburn improved to 6-6 on the season while UIS heads into GLVC play with a 6-9 record.
